Commissioner For Oaths
A Commissioner for Oaths in Ireland is a person appointed by the Chief Justice who is authorized to administer oaths and affirmations, and to take and receive affidavits and declarations. They play a crucial role in ensuring that documents used in legal proceedings or other formal processes are verified and authenticated. This includes certifying documents, witnessing signatures, and ensuring that statements are made truthfully under oath. Their powers help maintain the integrity and reliability of the legal and administrative systems in Ireland.

If you have a document that is a Statutory Declaration, an Affidavit or other official document that is needed for use in Ireland (or in some cases the UK) then a Commissioner for Oaths or Practising Solicitor can witness your signature or take your Oath/Declaration.
An appointment is necessary to avail of this service and you will be asked that you identify yourself by your passport or Irish driver’s licence. This ID is necessary because the form for signing will require the Commissioner to certify that you are personally known to them and passport (any country) or driver’s licence (Irish only please), which is acceptable to the Gardai is also acceptable. If you have neither of these documents, the Gardai will issue a certificate called an ML10 at your local station. You will need a passport sized photo for the Gardai.
No exceptions can be made in cases of identification.
Peace Commissioner
A Peace Commissioner in Ireland is a person appointed by the Minister for Justice to carry out a range of functions within the community.
